Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of gadget addiction on the social interactions of the younger generation, as well as to identify influencing factors and mitigation strategies. A qualitative method employing a literature review approach was used. Data were obtained by searching for and selecting scholarly articles relevant to themes such as gadget usage, gadget addiction, social media, and youth social interaction. Literature selection was based on topical alignment, relevance to the research focus, and the availability of information supporting the analysis. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-qualitative approach involving identification, thematic grouping of findings, comparison of research results, and synthesis to uncover patterns of relationships between gadget usage and changes in social interaction. The study results indicate that gadget addiction is linked not only to high usage intensity but also to a shift of time and attention from face-to-face interactions toward digital activities. This situation has the potential to diminish the quality of direct communication, social awareness, community engagement, and socialization skills. Conversely, the impact of gadgets is influenced by usage patterns and supervision factors. The literature synthesis reveals that parental supervision, usage restrictions, digital literacy, character education, and self-control are crucial factors in mitigating the negative impacts of gadget usage. The study concludes that the impact of gadget addiction on social interaction is a process involving excessive usage, shifts in interaction patterns, and changes in the quality of social relationships.
