Abstract

Bullying remains a persistent problem in elementary schools and may undermine students' social and emotional development. Prevention therefore requires an educational approach that goes beyond prohibition by strengthening positive character values. This community service program aimed to provide bullying prevention education based on Islamic character values for students of a public elementary school in Bumiasih. Participants were 51 students: 23 fifth graders and 28 sixth graders. The program used a participatory education approach in a single series of sessions, consisting of school coordination, material delivery, reinforcement of Islamic character values, an educational film, personal conversations, and written reflections. Students' responses and experiences were gathered through observation, questions and answers, personal conversations, and written reflections, and were analysed using descriptive qualitative analysis. Students began to recognise teasing and demeaning nicknames, previously regarded as jokes, as verbal bullying; shared experiences as victims and perpetrators; and linked compassion, empathy, brotherhood, mutual respect, and responsibility to daily behaviour. Because no pre- and post-activity measurement was conducted, the findings describe strengthened understanding and reflection rather than measured effectiveness. The program may serve as an initial reference for reflective, values-based education for early bullying prevention.
