Abstract

Sports injuries may occur due to improper techniques, inadequate warm-up, or excessive training loads. Appropriate initial management is necessary to reduce the risk of worsening injuries. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge of first aid for sports injuries at SMP Negeri 20 Surabaya. The activity was conducted offline using a single-group pretest–posttest evaluation design and included instructional presentations, demonstrations, RICE method simulations, a question-and-answer session, and knowledge assessments. The participants were 80 students representing their classes, the student council, and extracurricular activities. The mean knowledge score increased from 61.13 on the pretest to 94.00 on the posttest. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant difference between the two measurements (Z = −7.890; p < .001). These findings indicate improved knowledge following the workshop. However, practical skills and long-term knowledge retention were not assessed. Similar educational activities may be incorporated into school sports safety programs, accompanied by practical skills assessments and periodic follow-up evaluations.
