Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of social media in the spread of religious issues, examine the influence of hoaxes and hatred on religious moderation, and identify strategies to minimize the negative impact of social media on religious life. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method (library research). Data were obtained from various relevant scientific articles, books, and academic sources, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques by identifying, grouping, and synthesizing previous research findings. The results show that social media plays a strategic role in shaping people's religious understanding and also serves as a medium that accelerates the spread of hoaxes and hatred. Low digital literacy makes people more susceptible to provocative information that could increase religious tolerance and moderation. This research confirms that strengthening digital literacy, increasing the production of moderate religious content, and collaboration between the government, educational institutions, religious leaders, and the community are crucial steps in creating an inclusive, tolerant, and harmonious digital space.
